TSN — Scene at Night Column in Courier-Post: A door closes, four more open in Philly beer scene

Posting a little late, sorry. And Kraftwork opened Friday, not Wednesday. Oh, and Lucha VaVoom was HILARIOUS! The performers were talented enough to be in Cirque.

We begin this week with a bit of poignant news: Ortlieb’s Jazzhaus in Northern Liberties has closed after 23 years. We know the new owners tried to make it work and we hope for an equally cool joint to go into the historic brewery space. While we’re on the subject, The Drafting Room Springhouse also has closed, for you beer nerds who sometimes make it out to Montgomery County.

On to some happier news: Stephen Starr has opened Ranstead Room, a classic cocktail lounge attached to his new El Rey Mexican dining stop (2013 Chestnut St., Philadelphia. (215) 563-3330. Elreyrestaurant.com).

The Wishing Well is a comfort food and craft beer joint that opened last month in Bella Vista (767 S. 9th St., Philadelphia. (215) 238-6555. Wishingwellphilly.com).

As of press time, Kraftwork, a NoLibs all-draught beer bar by the owner of The Sidecar Bar & Grille, will open May 5 (541 E. Girard Ave., Philadelphia).

And finally, the third endeavor by the people behind Public House and Field House opens Monday. It’s called City Tap House and it’s a two-story pub in University City with 60 beers on tap, lots of outside seating and a guaranteed college crowd (The Radian Balcony, 3925 Walnut St., Philadelphia. (215) 662-0105. Citytaphouse.com).
